LJMU + Auburn Teams Secured First and Third Places at ASC Region 5 Competition

In a joint initiative, third-year students from the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) collaborated with the School of Building Science & Architecture at Auburn University to compete in the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 5 Student Competition. This event, underpinned by the Texo Foundation’s commitment to fostering new talent in construction, featured two teams from LJMU and Auburn University competing in the Design Build Track. Their project focused on creating a comprehensive plan for a Homeless People Centre in Dallas, Texas.

Team White, guided by Dr Alan Bugg and Dr Onur Dursun, showcased remarkable innovation and expertise to win first place. Meanwhile, Team Grey, with Dr Onur Dursun and Jonathan Tucker at the helm, also delivered a commendable performance, securing third place.

The Texo Foundation, the event’s sponsor, plays a pivotal role in this competition by connecting students to the construction industry, aiming to educate, recruit, train, and retain the next generation of construction professionals. This aligns with their broader mission to address the labor shortage in the construction industry through various educational and outreach programmes.

Looking to the future, LJMU is eager to expand its collaboration with Auburn University. By pursuing staff and student exchanges, joint research projects, and the sharing of best practices, LJMU reinforces its dedication to offering outstanding educational and professional development opportunities, setting a foundation for future successes in the global construction industry.
