General Rules
Q: Who can participate in the competition?
A: Only students currently enrolled in a construction-related programme at an ASC member school can participate, with exceptions for first-time participants as agreed with the Regional Director and Director Elect.
Q: How many teams can each institution sponsor?
A: Each participating programme can sponsor no more than two teams per track, with a maximum of six teams overall (two per track).
Q: Can a team member be on more than one team?
A: No, a team member may only be on one team.
Q: What are the requirements for team members’ enrollment?
A: All team members must be enrolled in an ASC member-built environment curriculum as undergraduates unless they are in their graduating semester at the time of the Regional competition or are representing an international construction programme.
Q: Can teams from outside Region 8 participate?
A: Yes, teams or team members external to Region 8 may compete but are asked to collaborate with a Region 8 member for their first team entry per track. Mixed International teams must have at least 50% of the required student team membership from the international programme.
Q: What if a team cannot find a Region 8 collaborator?
A: If you do not have a Region 8 collaborator, the Regional Director or Director Elect will endeavour to find you a partner. If a Region 8 collaborative partner cannot be secured, there will then be consideration for a full team entry in those exceptional cases.
Q: Can team members be replaced?
A: Yes, a team member can be replaced before the start of the problem-solving period. Any or all members of a team may be carried over from previous years.
Q: Are alternates allowed?
A: No, there will be no alternates involved with the team in any way after the competition begins.
Project Management (PM) and Construction Management/Quantity Surveying (CM/QS) Track
Q: How many students can be on a team for the PM and CM/QS track?
A: A maximum of four students all of whom are currently enrolled in a construction-related programme at an ASC member school.
Q: Can institutions sponsor multiple teams in the PM and CM/QS track?
A: Each participating programme shall sponsor no more than two teams per track.
Q: Can teams from outside Region 8 participate in the PM and CM/QS track?
A: Yes, teams from outside of Region 8 may compete but are asked to collaborate with a Region 8 member for their first team entry per track. Mixed International teams must have at least 50% of the required student team membership from the international programme.
Q: What is the policy for alternates and team membership in PM and CM/QS track?
A: There will be no alternates involved with the team in any way after the competition begins. A team member may only be on one team.
Design & Build (D&B) Track
Q: How many students can be on a team for the D&B track?
A: A maximum of six students all of whom are currently enrolled in a construction-related programme at an ASC member school.
Q: Are there any specific requirements for D&B teams?
A: Every effort should be made to have one design student and one construction programme student from each of the programmes on any international DB team.
Q: Can institutions sponsor multiple teams in the D&B track?
A: A Region 8 based ASC school may host more than one international team.
Q: Can teams from outside Region 8 participate in the D&B track?
A: Yes, teams from outside of Region 8 may compete but are asked to collaborate with a Region 8 member for their first team entry per track. Mixed International teams must have at least 50% of the required student team membership from the international programme.
